Fabric Direction

Which Direction Do I Run My Fabric?

Fabric can be used in one of two directions:

1.       Traditional:

The pattern runs up the roll.  For larger pieces, this issue can be important depending on style and pattern matching.  The fabric is typically 54 inches wide and you will need to seam it and most likely pattern match.  This is the most common way fabric is woven or printed.

2.       Railroaded:

The pattern runs across the roll.  This is desirable when upholstering large pieces as you do not have to worry about seaming every 54 inches.

NOTE:  For solid fabrics without nap may be laid out either way.
